‘Very ambitious… when he’s gone… City will continue to be City’: Rodri hints at Guardiola’s future at Man City

ICYMI: Of late, Rodri granted interviews to a few European publications. In one of the interviews, which he granted the Spanish radio station Cope, he spoke about Pep Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium, citing Guardiola as being ‘very ambitious.’

In the news recently: Man City’s management was said to have called up Guardiola for what was termed ‘emergency’, where the club discussed his contract and future at Man City.

Whether or not the deal goes through, Guardiola will always be remembered, Rodri hinted. One thing is sure, though, ‘City will continue to be City’, even though Guardiola’s leaving the club would change things. Rodri knows this and he was quoted as saying in part regarding that:

“You want to be surrounded by the best and there will be a before and after Pep. When I signed, they told me that Guardiola was leaving but he is very ambitious. When he is gone, things will change but City will continue to be City.”

Keep this in mind: Guardiola’s contract with Man City is set to expire later in June 2025. The decision about his stay at City for next season has, however, not been made.

Although both people from Guardiola’s camp and Manchester City’s management are currently in talks to make a decision on his contract neither the Premier League side nor Guardiola have given any clues about a possible renewal.

For what itʼs worth: Rodri’s contract is also being looked at, but a decision has also not being made, about whether or not he would be staying at City after his contract expires.

For Rodri, though, ‘contract renewal is not his priority right now,’ but to recover from his injury. Plus, he hopes to recover quick and be able to play in the remaining games before the 2024/25 season is over.
