Report: Man City’s Midfield Gets a Lift Ahead of Juventus Fixture… Guardiola Gives Details

Manchester City’s midfield gets a much-needed lift as Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic return to the squad for their Champions League fixture against Juventus. However, defensive absences continue to pose challenges for Pep Guardiola’s side.

DETAILS:

Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic have rejoined Manchester City’s squad for their crucial Champions League match against Juventus. The duo resumed training on Tuesday and were included in the 22-man traveling squad. However, Guardiola hinted that their involvement might be limited due to a lack of match fitness.

“Maybe a few minutes for Kova, but I don’t think so,” Guardiola said when asked if the pair would start. “It’s nice to have them back with the team.”

City’s injury list remains significant, particularly in defence. John Stones, Nathan Aké, and Manuel Akanji are all unavailable, leaving Guardiola to field a patched-up backline. Rodri and Oscar Bobb also remain sidelined, stretching the squad even further.

Despite these setbacks, Guardiola has called up youth players, including Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Jacob Wright, to bolster the squad.

QUOTES:

Guardiola on defensive injuries:

“Nathan will be longer than Manu, but I don’t know [how long]. It’s the same challenge like we had last month—nothing changes.”

SQUAD LIST FOR JUVENTUS:

Key players traveling to Turin include Ederson, Kyle Walker, Erling Haaland, and Julian Alvarez, alongside returning stars Foden and Kovacic.

KEEP IN MIND:

City’s form in the Champions League has been patchy, with just one win in their last three games. The return of Foden and Kovacic could provide a spark, but defensive frailties remain a concern against an unbeaten Juventus side.
