Man City’s January Pursuit of Juventus Star Put on Ice – Summer Move on the Cards?

Manchester City’s chase for Andrea Cambiaso has officially hit the brakes—at least for now. Reports from Italy suggest that the reigning Premier League champions have paused negotiations with Juventus over the highly-rated full-back, shifting their focus to a potential summer move instead.

What Went Wrong? – The £75 Million Roadblock

For weeks, City have been linked with Cambiaso, with whispers of smooth talks on personal terms and even a verbal agreement on a five-year contract. But if there’s one thing Pep Guardiola’s side isn’t known for, it’s overpaying in the winter market.

And that’s exactly what happened here. Juventus reportedly slapped a £75 million price tag on the 24-year-old, a fee that City saw as excessive—especially in a January window notorious for inflated prices.

Juventus Stand Firm – No Time for a Replacement

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via Tuttomercatoweb, confirms that Juventus are not budging on their valuation, and with the window closing fast, they feel there’s simply not enough time to bring in a replacement.

Even Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli made it clear earlier this month that there had been no official bid from City. His stance? If an offer did arrive, they’d evaluate it—but weren’t actively looking to sell.

Meanwhile, Juventus boss Thiago Motta took an even firmer stance, stating on January 17:

“Andrea is very well; he will be on the pitch tomorrow. That’s for sure. Untransferable? Yes, I already have asked for players not to be sold. And they kept them.”

Sounds like City were always facing an uphill battle in this one.

City’s Stance – Patience is Key

From City’s perspective, this isn’t exactly a surprise. The club had already hinted to English media that Cambiaso was more of a summer target than a January one. With the player reportedly open to the move, all signs now point to City reigniting their interest once the season ends—when Juventus may be more willing to negotiate.

For now, Cityzens will have to wait. But knowing City’s transfer strategy, this deal might not be dead—just on hold until the right moment.
