Man City star Savinho narrowly avoids MAJOR injury after falling off the pitch into the photographerʼs pit following collision with Salfordʼs Curtis Tilt
Manchester City’s FA Cup third-round demolition of Salford City nearly took an unexpected twist when winger Savinho dramatically tumbled into the photographer’s pit after a heated collision with Salford defender Curtis Tilt. The 20-year-old Brazilian, making his FA Cup debut, avoided injury in what could have been a disastrous moment.
The incident occurred midway through the first half as Savinho battled Tilt for possession near the touchline. The tussle sent the City winger off-balance, causing him to crash into the pit. Quick-thinking photographers scrambled out of the way, minimizing the impact.
Savinho was assisted out of the pit by one of the photographers, though Tilt also extended a hand—an offer that Savinho pointedly declined, sparking a brief but fiery exchange between the two.
At the time of the incident, City were cruising with a 2-0 lead, courtesy of goals from Jeremy Doku and Divin Mubama. Despite the fall and subsequent altercation, Savinho dusted himself off and continued in what would eventually become an 8-0 rout.
James McAtee’s hat-trick, Doku’s second-half penalty, and strikes from Jack Grealish and Nico O’Reilly underscored City’s dominance.
Savinho’s fiery response to Tilt’s gesture added an intriguing subplot to the match. While emotions flared on the pitch, off it, Pep Guardiola continued to heap praise on the young winger.
Guardiola recently noted that Savinho’s form and delivery in the box have surpassed even that of Jack Grealish, who has been forced to battle for his place in City’s starting XI.
“Competition is the key,” Guardiola remarked, explaining his decision to start Savinho in recent games. “I want the Jack that won the Treble, but right now, Savinho is in better shape.”
Guardiola’s comments highlight the intense competition within his squad, with Savinho’s emergence threatening to cement him as a key figure in City’s attack. The winger has already made 26 appearances for the club across all competitions, contributing one goal and eight assists.
For City, their resounding victory over Salford not only ensured progression to the fourth round but also showcased their squad depth and hunger to reclaim the FA Cup after losing last year’s final to Manchester United.
For Savinho, it was a night of drama, determination, and perhaps a signal that his trajectory at City is only just beginning.
