Just In: Rodri offers MAJOR recovery update from pro-longed injury
Manchester City and Spain have received a timely boost, as midfield maestro Rodri has hinted at a potential return to action before the end of the season. The 28-year-old, who suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in September, is optimistic about completing his rehabilitation ahead of key fixtures later in the year.
According to the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, his recovery is progressing smoothly, aided by his positive mentality. Rodri sustained the injury during a 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad, marking a devastating blow to City’s campaign.
His absence has coincided with an uncharacteristic slump for Pep Guardiola’s side, raising concerns over their Champions League hopes and domestic ambitions.
Rodri spoke to Spanish outlet AS about his determination to return. “Yes, yes, yes,” he confirmed when asked about featuring again this season. “I know myself, and I recover well. The mental aspect is crucial in recovery, and so far, everything is going very well. Of course, I want to play again this season.”
His return would be a major lift for City, who have shown signs of stabilizing with back-to-back wins and the return of Oscar Bobb to first-team training.
However, the Sky Blues remain far from their imperious best and will be desperate for Rodri’s influence in midfield to regain control of their season.
The Spaniard also expressed his eagerness to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup and Spain’s UEFA Nations League matches.
“Those are the big tournaments I have in mind,” Rodri revealed. “But my idea is to try and come back earlier. I miss my team, my national team, football itself. The desire to return is mutual.”
Manchester City will kick off their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 in Philadelphia against Wydad AC. Whether Rodri can make it back in time remains uncertain, but his determination to contribute to the team’s success is clear.
For City and Spain, his return could be the difference-maker in a critical stretch of the season.
