Just In: Ilkay Gundogan retirement plans revealed as new report confirms next move
Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly eyeing one last major move in European football before possibly concluding his career in Saudi Arabia.
Reports confirmed the 34-year-old returned to Manchester City late in the summer transfer window after financial issues at Barcelona forced the La Liga side to part ways with him.
However, his performances have been inconsistent, with injuries affecting his ability to play a regular role in City’s midfield this season.
According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Turkish giants Galatasaray are planning a summer move for Gundogan, as they believe a January transfer is out of the question.
Admittedly, the midfielder has faced challenges adapting, leading to speculation that he could be one of the players moved on in Manchester City’s planned rebuild in 2025.
Gundogan himself believes he has one final European move in him before potentially making the switch to Saudi Arabia. Despite his struggles, he still harbors ambitions to compete at the top level for another year or two before ending his playing career in a less competitive league.
Throughout his second stint at Manchester City, Gundogan has consistently expressed how much he enjoys being part of the team.
He described his return as “feeling like being back home,” highlighting his appreciation for the club and the high level of football he’s still able to play at.
