‘Hope the Fans See’ – Nico González’s First Interview Since Man City Move as Shirt Number Revealed
New £50m Manchester City signing Nico Gonzalez has spoken for the first time since completing his deadline-day move from Porto, and he’s ready to bring intensity, goals, and assists to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Initially, City weren’t willing to fork out that much for the 23-year-old midfielder, but after the 5-1 thrashing at Arsenal, the club decided to dig deeper into their pockets to strengthen their shaky midfield.
With Rodri’s absence exposing City’s defensive fragility, Gonzalez arrives as a crucial piece of the puzzle. He’s now been handed the No.14 shirt, a number previously worn by club legends.

In his first club interview, Gonzalez broke down his playing style, assuring fans that he’s ready to adapt quickly to City’s high-intensity football:
“I think this season I have started to arrive more into the area to score and assist many goals. I think I have also improved a lot in my intensity and I hope this will help me in the Premier League.”
Raised in La Masia, Gonzalez is no stranger to possession-based football, which he believes will help him slot into Guardiola’s system with ease:
“Since I was small, I always played a similar game and style to what Manchester City plays. Also, in Portugal, I tried to improve my play and the tempo of games, which has made me a complete footballer.”
And for City fans wondering what to expect from their new signing, Gonzalez had this to say:
“I hope the fans see a player that can play with the ball but also attack.”
With City’s title charge heating up, Gonzalez will need to hit the ground running. If his confidence and past performances are anything to go by, the Premier League is about to witness another midfield maestro in blue.
