Barcelona president Joan Laporta sends surprise thanks to Real Madrid and Florentino Perez for support in Dani Olmo registration case
In an unexpected turn of events, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly thanked Real Madrid and their president, Florentino Perez, for their support during the Dani Olmo registration saga.
Apparently, this move came after Laporta and Perez spoke at the Supercopa de España final in Jeddah, where the two presidents found themselves in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
According to Laporta, unlike Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, who voiced their opposition to Olmo being re-registered, Real Madrid chose to remain neutral on the matter.
Laporta expressed his gratitude to those clubs, including Los Blancos, for their stance, highlighting that the registration issue was largely resolved behind the scenes with a sense of “harmony” between the two historic clubs.
At a press conference, Laporta elaborated that he would not disclose the specifics of his conversation with Perez but acknowledged the support from clubs that refrained from opposing Barcelona’s decision.
With Barcelona’s registration issues now behind them, Laporta also dismissed the “apocalyptic narrative” surrounding the situation, asserting that both Olmo and Pau Victor were successfully re-registered.
The bigger picture here is that Barcelona had been under pressure from La Liga and the RFEF over these registration challenges. Laporta, never one to shy away from a confrontation, accused both organizations of attempting to destabilize the club.
Despite these challenges, the team proceeded to enjoy success on the field, with Olmo and Victor part of the matchday squad in the Spanish Super Cup final, helping Barcelona claim a dominant 5-2 victory.
Looking ahead, Barcelona’s focus now shifts to their Copa del Rey round of 16 clash against Real Betis, as they aim to continue their strong run in domestic competitions.
