Real Madrid Reportedly Abandon January Pursuit Of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid has reportedly abandoned its efforts to sign Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window. According to Relevo, the Spanish giants had been linked with the 26-year-old right-back for weeks and even made an initial bid earlier this month. However, the complexities of the transfer have led them to shelve their pursuit, at least for now.

Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, would be free to negotiate a summer move with foreign clubs. Despite this, Liverpool is unwilling to part ways with one of their key players mid-season, especially as they remain in contention for several trophies.

Reports suggest that Real Madrid faced significant obstacles in meeting Liverpool’s demands, making the transfer “practically impossible” at this time.

Additionally, internal disagreements within Real Madrid may have played a role. While head coach Carlo Ancelotti reportedly favored strengthening the squad in January, some club executives were less inclined to prioritize mid-season signings.

The England international has been a vital figure for Liverpool, despite facing criticism for inconsistent performances. He was notably singled out during Liverpool’s recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United but responded strongly by captaining the side and scoring in their FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley.

Most recently, Alexander-Arnold played the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

As things stand, Alexander-Arnold remains focused on his responsibilities under Liverpool manager Arne Slot. While Real Madrid may revisit their interest in the summer, the right-back’s immediate future appears firmly tied to Anfield.
