Manchester United may find themselves grappling with a significant roadblock in their efforts to offload Marcus Rashford, as AC Milan’s interest in the forward clashes with new challenges stemming from Brexit-related registration rules.
With Rashford reportedly earning a staggering £300,000 per week, United are eager to move him on to free up space on their wage bill and bring in fresh reinforcements.
According to sources, Rashford’s representatives are already in Italy for talks with AC Milan, but a bombshell update from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could complicate matters.
Guardiola revealed that Kyle Walker is keen to leave the Etihad, with AC Milan emerging as a potential destination. Due to post-Brexit regulations, Milan can only register one British player, forcing them to choose between Rashford and Walker.
The 27-year-old Rashford has fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim, failing to make the squad for the last seven matches across all competitions. Amorim’s stance has remained firm, with Rashford’s exit appearing inevitable.
However, his hefty wages could deter potential suitors, including Premier League side West Ham United, who reportedly expressed interest but remain wary of the financial implications.
Other European heavyweights such as Barcelona, Juventus, AS Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with Rashford, but AC Milan’s intent has been the strongest. United may need to consider covering part of his wages to facilitate a loan deal, similar to Jadon Sancho’s recent exit.
