Man City close in on FIRST major signing of January transfer window
Manchester City are closing in on their first major signing of the January transfer window, with a deal for Lens defender Abdukhodir Khusanov reportedly nearing completion. The 20-year-old centre-back, who has been instrumental in Lens’ impressive defensive record this season, is set to join the Premier League champions in a move worth €50 million, including bonuses.
Pep Guardiola is looking to revitalize his squad following a recent dip in form, with Khusanov’s arrival marking the first step in what could be a busy window for City. The Uzbek international has attracted interest from several top clubs after a breakout campaign in Ligue 1, but City appear to have won the race for his signature.
Lens, who signed Khusanov for just €100,000 in 2023, have accepted the reality of losing their defensive star, especially with only two years left on his contract.
According to Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger, the player is eager to make the switch to the Etihad, with the deal expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Khusanov’s signing is likely to be the start of a flurry of activity for City. Guardiola’s side remains in talks with Palmeiras over a €40 million move for teenage defender Vitor Reis, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush has emerged as a key target to bolster their attack. However, negotiations for the prolific forward could prove challenging, with Frankfurt demanding €80 million for the Egyptian star.
City’s ambition to strengthen their squad further could also see a midfielder added before the window closes, as Guardiola looks to ensure his team remains competitive on all fronts. With Khusanov’s signing seemingly imminent, the January window is shaping up to be a pivotal period for the reigning Premier League champions.
