“Are you crying?” Lip-reader reveals what Pep Guardiola really said to van Hecke following his encounter with Erling Haaland on the pitch in the last game.
The Inside Gist: Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola approached Brighton’s defender, Jan Paul van Hecke, on the pitch… immediately after the final whistle for the match City played against Brighton last week, was blown.
In the news: A lip reader, sources confirmed, have revealed what Guardiola really said to Jan Paul van Hecke after the defender clashed with Erling Haaland. Apparently. Jan Paul had a supposed ‘clash’ with Haaland.
What happened: Man City coach appeared to have had an animated exchange with van Hecke following the Seagulls’ dramatic 2-1 win at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
Apparently, the tension between Haaland and van Hecke reached a boiling point in injury time, with both players booked after a clash in Brighton’s penalty area. Clearly, Guardiola stepped in after the match to understand what went down.
Keep this in mind: Guardiola has not publicly confirmed all that went down, by any stretch at the last game. However, a lip-reader Jeremy Freeman was said to have told the Daily Mail that he did analyze the footage and believes he’s figured out all that went down in the exchange.
Per Freeman’s discernment after looking at the obtained footage: Guardiola began the encounter by saying, “Are you joking? Are you serious? You don’t do that.”
Freeman continues: Guardiola supposedly questioned Van Hecke, still within the conversation, by saying, “Are you crying?”
There’s more: Freeman claims that Guardiola followed up with, “Fair play for that…” prompting a confused van Hecke to ask, “Why?” To which Guardiola reportedly replied, “No, come on baby… No… No, let’s go clap. You played a good game. I still like to congratulate you.”
Furthermore, Freeman believes Guardiola ended the conversation with,” Congratulations, anyway… Enjoy your night.”
For what itʼs worth: Jan Paul van Hecke while speaking to The Argus after the match, shrugged off the encounter, and more interestingly, would describe Guardiola as gracious in defeat. He was quoted as saying:
“He just congratulated me. I told him they have a great team… I felt like the whole game I was in the rondo! I only have a lot of respect for him.” He added while reiterating the respect he has for him.
